Katharine Taylor is a gemologist/appraiser, mother of men, a 20+ year cancer survivor but is most identifiable as a Representational Artist. Her enthusiasm for painting comes from her European travels and growing up on the banks of the Potomac River near the Mount Vernon Estate in Virginia.
Katharine is fascinated by the small villages and old-World charm of France, especially drawn to the weathered and timeworn details of the doors, windows and stairways. Additionally, after living on the water, she instinctively looks for the reflections of sky, the watery ripples and the bending of light…. all properties to which watercolors lend themselves beautifully.
Katharine has shown in various sized galleries and venues in Washington D.C., New York and Savannah, Georgia. She has enjoyed an art residency in Aix-en-Provence in France and looks forward to another in the Champagne-Ardenne region in 2025.
She has studied with various watercolor artists at The Art League, Alexandria VA, including Maria McCarty, Gwen Bragg, and Steve Fleming. Katharine earned her Graduate Gemologist Degree from the Gemological Institute of America in NYC and has a B.A. in Fine Art with a Concentration in Painting from the University of Longwood, Virginia.
Katharine seldom accepts commissioned projects anymore but is pleased to discuss any interest in future subjects or projects. She may be contacted at katharine@thecolorgallerie.com.
